Texas State University is a student-centered doctoral-granting Emerging Research University located in the burgeoning Austin-San Antonio corridor, the largest campus in the Texas State University System, and the fourth largest public university in the state. Texas State Setting
Texas State University is situated at the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country and the Edwards Plateau, a setting that offers outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities. The natural springs that form the San Marcos River are located within the Texas State campus and its constant 72° Fahrenheit waters provide opportunities for swimming, river rafting, and canoeing. If you enjoy shopping, San Marcos is home to one of the largest malls of discount stores with over 250 brand name stores.

The cities of Austin and San Antonio are approximately 30 miles north and 45 miles south of San Marcos, respectively, along I-35. This ideal location offers easy access to the best that these thriving cities have to offer. Austin, the capitol of Texas, is perhaps best known as the center of the Texas music scene, but also offers many cultural, educational, recreational, and gastronomic delights. Likewise, San Antonio is a city steeped in history dating to the 1500’s and boasts of venues such as the River Walk, Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the Alamo. In addition, it is home to the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association.
